PAYDAY 3: Blog Update #39 – God fortsättning!

+ + + + +

Hey heisters!

Almir here, aka Mr. No-Big-Oil, aka Hotdog Yawn, aka the Beard, aka Mr. Payday, welcoming you to year 2 of PAYDAY 3!

I hope you all have had a great holiday season filled with joy, loot bags and time spent with your families (or gangs).

Last year was a challenging year for PAYDAY 3, our main focus having been Operation Medic Bag and on improving the core experience of the game, fixing the things that you in the community felt were lacking. While there’s more to be done this year, it’s great to be able to look back at the improvements made. Among other things we removed and remade the progression system, added free and paid heists – and we saw the return of Clover and Houston to the PAYDAY gang, wrapping up the year on a high with First World Bank, the most iconic heist in the PAYDAY trilogy.

This year is going to be an exciting one for PAYDAY 3, with more heists, characters, and features to be released. While I can’t reveal who the next character is just yet, I can tell you that my most anticipated feature for this quarter is Armor 2.0, I think it’s going to be a game changer.

Now that Andreas, myself and the PAYDAY 3 team are back in action, we’re making some efforts to tighten up our workflow with the goal of nailing down what worked and what didn’t from last year.

One thing that I wanted to touch on in this blog is the blogs themselves. As part of Operation Medic Bag, we initiated the Friday Blogs where we would share relevant information on a weekly basis about upcoming updates, previews and clarifications. We wrote almost 40 blog posts over the year, sharing what we could and what we thought would be interesting for you all to know.

We quickly ran into issues though, the promise of weekly blogs in particular. It turned out that there wasn’t necessarily something interesting and relevant to say every week. This created a lot of frustration in the PAYDAY community, where you felt we weren’t taking the blogs seriously or that whatever they were about was lacking. We felt obliged to live up to the weekly cadence while knowing that you would not necessarily enjoy the content therein.

On that note, we will move away from a weekly cadence to writing blogs when we have something meaningful to share that we – based on your feedback from last year – know you want to learn more about. This will make sure that whenever there is a new blog post, you will know that it is something about a new update, something important about the game and not just fluff unrelated to the future of the game. This will help our team be able to deliver better blogs, while freeing up time for us to focus more on the game and the improvements we’re making. We like the format of blogs as a way of sharing information and we want to keep doing them, but it took the joy out of it when we wrote something that was poorly received.

We will continue to be as open and transparent as we can, doing weekly streams with Almir and Haua, sharing information when we can. PAYDAY Twitter Man will continue being, well, PAYDAY Twitter Man, as we prepare all the cool stuff we’ve got in the pipeline.

I’d like to end this first blog of the year by saying Thank You to all the heisters out there who supported us over the past year. Your time spent in our community, your feedback and critique has really helped us make sure we put out the best content we can. Your love for the game and the PAYDAY universe is what keeps us going, and I want to thank you on behalf of the team for sticking with us through thick and thin. We salute you heisters!

Until next time, keep those helmets flying!

Almir
