PAYDAY 2: Voluntary open beta invite focusing on network related improvements

The following is information regarding a voluntary beta test. Continue reading if you’re interested in volunteering.

Network related changes

• We now have network options in the start menu and ingame menu. One can choose packet throttling and compression. Packet throttling is good for those who have poor connections and want to reduce network overhead. Packet throttling is off by default. Compression costs CPU time but when enabled reduces the network traffic. The poorer the connection, the better the compression becomes. Compression is on by default.
• Drop-in synchronization is 5 times faster.
• We’ve optimized the use and size of the largest and most used network packets. Everyone wins thanks to this, no matter what type of connection you have.

To summarize, assuming the open beta is successful, the changes will be better for those who have latency, packet loss or slow connections. The network related changes will also benefit those who have trouble-free connections.

The following is an invitation to an open beta focusing network related issues. By testing this with us, we hope to add these network related changes to the live game.

If it crashes while you play, you can find your crash dumps (file extension .mdmp) in this folder: SteamsteamappscommonPAYDAY 2. Please share this with us by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. As subject, type “Open Beta Crash dump”

Participate by doing the following:
1) Right click on PAYDAY 2 in your Steam library
2) Go to properties
3) Go to the “BETAS” tab
4) Switch to open_beta (there is no password)
5) Press “CLOSE”
6) Download the update

PLEASE NOTE: Do this at your own risk. You might lose your save file so please back it up before you start. This is a beta so the game might crash during play.

PLEASE NOTE #2: If you choose to participate, please uninstall any mods you use. We can’t use your feedback if you have any mods installed, as that feedback won’t reflect the unmodified experience.
